Ok I just hacked together a little script that gives you a 5 color palette based on text that you type in a form field.

Give it a try:

Transmute Text to Color

The next step will be hooking it up to the CL API in some way I suppose.

I'd love to add it to my CL profile but any way I try doesn't seem to work :(

Anyway give it a try let me know what you think, post your transmutation findings here! :)

Yeah I'm doing an md5 hash with a salt on the text and then splitting the result into 6 character segments, works like a charm since md5 is hex just like html color codes.


I am using is what ends up being the reason that there are more traditional color harmonies than random I believe.

I've long suspected that the pixel thwarts us from creating colors. Because the color chooser is relatively small and the screen is based on the pixel it seems like it would cause some limitations. Of course you can always change a number or letter but that isn't as hands on.

Yeah the pixelator system at CL is really quite good, but seems to draw from a small bank of possible colors for some reason.

Mine doesn't particularly suit me but it's very harmonious too.



Still had to name every single colour of every single one so far. I know the colour-picker probably doesn't yield as easy of access to every single possible hex number, but I also use a handful of other outside apps which calculate hexes and then type them in, and I still have never had this many of them be unnamed. Weird!
